Our History
The Borateem® story begins in 1968, when our founder, John Smith, first started experimenting with soap formulas in his basement. As a chemist with a lifelong fascination for how things work, John loved creating new cleaning solutions and testing them on his family’s laundry. After months of research and refining his recipes, John finally created a formula that got clothes cleaner and fresher than anything else on the market.
Excited by his discovery, John decided to go into business selling his new laundry detergent. He named his product Borateem® as a nod to the key ingredients that made it so effective: borax and enzyme-based cleaners. With just a single product and a small team, John started selling Borateem® locally in his hometown.
Word quickly spread about this amazing new detergent that got out even the toughest stains. Within a year, Borateem® was being sold in stores across the state. As demand grew, John brought on more staff and expanded distribution nationwide.
By the late 1970s, Borateem® had become one of the top-selling laundry detergent brands in America. John’s commitment to continuous innovation and improvement has been instrumental to our success over the decades.
